Roland DG’s European subsidiaries carried out a series of community outreach projects using its wide-format inkjet printers to decorate walls at children’s hospitals between March 2023 and October 2024. The initiative aimed to brighten hospital spaces with vivid graphics, helping to create a more welcoming and comfortable environment where young patients could feel more at ease during their treatment.

The first initiative took place in the United Kingdom. As part of a refurbishment project at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, Roland DG partnered with the hospital’s official charity, Grand Appeal, to install wall graphics in the treatment and waiting rooms of the Neurophysiology Department.
The design theme was “Under the Sea,” featuring a vibrant underwater world that offers a sense of calm to patients. Positive and reassuring messages were also incorporated to provide emotional support to both patients and their families.
A representative from Grand Appeal shared, “The wall graphics have brought light and color into the lives of unwell children. We have already seen a positive impact among patients.”

The second project took place in Italy at Policlinico di Milano, one of the country’s oldest and most renowned hospitals. Its pediatric unit, Clinica Pediatrica De Marchi, was decorated with pastel-colored graphics featuring animal motifs throughout common areas, staircases, and elevators. The warm and friendly designs helped create a more relaxing atmosphere and contributed to more human-centered care.
A hospital representative commented, “Creating a warm and welcoming environment is an important part of the healing process. We have been engaged in various projects aimed at the humanization of care to make the hospital stay more comfortable, especially for young patients. The collaboration with Roland DG is perfectly in line with this journey.”

The third project took place at Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona, Spain. Roland DG was invited to support the hospital’s pediatric and neonatology unit’s renovation by installing over 2,000 m2 of graphics.
The design, themed around a “Journey Through the Human Body,” incorporated both educational and playful elements to spark curiosity and encourage learning. The graphics helped transform the hospital into a space where children could relax and feel at home, promoting a positive mindset toward treatment.
The Head of Pediatrics at Hospital de Sant Pau expressed their appreciation, stating, “We are grateful to Roland DG for their innovative approach, which aligns perfectly with our mission to humanize healthcare and ensure that our young patients feel at ease during their time here.”

Creating bright and comfortable healthcare spaces with printing technology
All the wall decorations in this project were produced using Roland DG’s first resin printer, the TrueVIS AP-640. The AP-640 and its highly concentrated color pigmentation of resin ink enables vibrant color reproduction and superior image quality. For added peace of mind, the inks are GREENGUARD Gold certified for low VOCs, making them safe for sensitive environments like hospitals. Compatible with a wide range of materials, including paper, fabric, canvas, wallpaper, and non-PVC media, the TrueVIS AP-640 allows for versatile and impactful design applications.
Through these hospital transformation projects, Roland DG aimed to help children in their recovery journeys. By blending digital printing technology with thoughtful design, we added color and warmth to spaces that are often sterile and intimidating, delivering hope and comfort to young patients.
Reflecting on the initiative, Lauren Swinnerton, Head of Marketing Communications and Brand at Roland DG EMEA, said, “We’re proud to have been able to use our technology to contribute to local communities as a trusted member of the region.”
Roland DG remains committed to using its products and technology to enhance environments and support people across diverse sectors.
